Features

What Word Challenge does

Unlimited word puzzles

No daily cap: choose word lengths from four to seven letters on iPhone, or up to fourteen on iPad.

Real-time multiplayer duels

Turn-based or timed-race word duels over SignalR, shared or per-player hints, invite by shareable link.

Optional Daily Challenge

One global word a day, server-enforced, with streaks, a leaderboard and a shareable result card.

Full offline mode

Classic five-letter play works with no connection at all, using a bundled dictionary of around 16,000 words.

AI hints that nudge, not reveal

OpenAI-generated hints are constrained to never give away the word. The first is free, then there's a small coin cost.

A free solver toolkit on the web

word-challenge.com pairs the app with five entirely client-side solvers (Wordle, Scrabble, anagram, crossword and Spelling Bee), plus a 23,000+ word database.

The word game that answers a simple complaint

We built Word Challenge around a straightforward frustration with the genre: why does a word puzzle only give you one go a day? The app lets players solve as many hidden words as they like, choosing lengths from four to fourteen letters on both iPhone and the roomier iPad layout. Full offline play (a classic five-letter mode backed by a bundled ~16,000-word dictionary) means the game works with no connection at all. An optional Daily Challenge is still there for anyone who wants the shared-puzzle ritual, complete with streaks and a leaderboard.

Real multiplayer, not just a shared leaderboard

Play with Friends turns the game into a live word duel over SignalR: turn-based with a shared board and shared hints, or a timed race with separate boards where the first to solve wins. Invites go out as a shareable link, and push notifications tell players when it's their turn or the game has ended. A coin economy (earned by winning, spent on AI hints and extra tries) sits alongside Game Center leaderboards and achievements. The whole app was refreshed with a Liquid Glass redesign for iOS 26, with support back to iOS 18.

A genuine full-stack product

Behind the app sits a purpose-built .NET 9 backend with real-time multiplayer over SignalR, DynamoDB-backed game state, RevenueCat-powered in-app purchases, and OpenAI-generated hints constrained to nudge rather than reveal the answer. It's deployed as a container to AWS Lightsail with three separately scoped IAM identities for deploy, runtime and storage. That's a deliberate least-privilege split rather than a single shared credential.

A companion site that earns its own traffic

word-challenge.com is a programmatic-SEO site in its own right, built on Next.js 16 with a committed SQLite database as the single source of truth for both the site and the app's word lists. It hosts five entirely client-side solver tools (Wordle, Scrabble, anagram, crossword and Spelling Bee) that need no sign-up and no server round-trip. It also has a growing database of more than 23,000 words, with definitions, synonyms, antonyms and per-length insights. It's localised into English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Brazilian Portuguese.
