Nanotech Computers is a software studio founded by Kevin Deason in 2004. The business began as a sole proprietorship, offering IT support, networking and hardware services. It built, upgraded and maintained servers, desktops and laptops. In 2012, the focus shifted to software development. In 2017, the studio was registered as a company in South Africa. From a base in Randburg, Johannesburg, we design and build native Apple apps, web platforms and the cloud services that sit behind them.
We are driven by turning an idea into software that lasts. Working across iOS, Angular and .NET, we craft web, mobile and desktop applications that create lasting value. Collaboration, reliability and precision guide every step.
We work closely with the people we build for: understanding the goal, shaping the plan around it, and delivering on the opportunities that matter. Whether that is a period tracker with an Apple Watch companion, a real-time multiplayer word game, or a tamper-evident asset ledger, we take products from a first sketch to the App Store or the edge.
As a founder-led studio, the person who designs a product is the person who builds and ships it. Nothing is handed off into a void, and nothing is dressed up as finished before it truly is.
By the numbers
Honest figures, no vanity metrics.
Years building software
Shipping software since 2012, under a name that dates back to 2004.
Products in the portfolio
Apps and platforms designed, built and taken to release.
Platforms we build for
iOS and iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, Windows, Android, and the web from frontend to REST API backend.
Languages our apps speak
Localisation is a first-class concern, not an afterthought.
How we work
The principles behind everything we ship
They are not a poster on a wall. They are the reasons our apps store data on the device, our plans distinguish proven from planned, and our releases are repeatable.
Craft over shortcuts
We build native where it counts, test what we ship, and write bespoke engines rather than reaching for the nearest plugin.
Privacy by default
Where we can, data stays on the device. Integrations are opt-in, accounts are optional, and nothing is ever sold.
Honest about status
We keep track of what is genuinely proven versus aspirational. We say which is which, to ourselves and to you.
End to end
Design, build and ship under one roof, so requirements never fall through the gaps between separate teams.
Details that add up
Localisation into eight languages, accessible interfaces, and the small interactions people never consciously notice.
In it for the long run
Collaboration, reliability and precision: the same values the studio was founded on back in 2004.
