What Simply Read does

Adaptive word timing

Each word stays on screen only as long as it needs. Longer and rarer words linger, with natural pauses after punctuation.

Four highlighting modes

Switch between letter, word, sentence or paragraph highlighting at any time, to match how a reader wants to follow along.

Eight classics, built in

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Anne of Green Gables, Grimms' Fairy Tales and five more public-domain titles, bundled and readable offline.

Bring your own books

Import any plain-text file, including straight Project Gutenberg downloads. Chapters, sentences and paragraphs are detected automatically.

A pace for every reader

A speed slider runs from a gentle 60 words a minute up past 350, with age-based starting presets offered during onboarding.

Private by design

No account, no analytics, no ads and no subscriptions: books, settings and reading position stay on the device.

A reading pace that adapts to the word, not the reader

Simply Read highlights a book one letter, word, sentence or paragraph at a time, holding each on screen for exactly as long as it needs. Instead of flashing every word for the same fixed interval, an adaptive timing engine weighs each word's length, syllable count, letter patterns and rarity. Harder, longer, rarer words linger a little longer; short, familiar words move on quickly; punctuation earns a natural pause. It sits closer to bionic-reading and RSVP speed-reading apps than a plain e-reader, but it's pitched at a broad audience: early readers, language learners, and adults who simply want to read faster.

Four ways to follow along, at any speed

Readers choose how they track the text: letter by letter, word by word, sentence by sentence, or paragraph by paragraph. They set their own pace with a slider that runs from a gentle 60 words a minute for early readers up past 350 for speed readers, adjustable mid-read without losing their place. Onboarding offers age-based starting presets, from Toddler through Speed reader, but never stores the age itself.

A library that works offline, and takes your own books too

Eight public-domain classics (from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland to Grimms' Fairy Tales) ship with the app and read fully offline. Readers can also import their own plain-text files, including files downloaded directly from Project Gutenberg. Chapters, sentences and paragraphs are detected automatically, and licence and header text are stripped on import.

Built natively, kept private

Simply Read is an Angular 21 application (using the newer Signals API to drive its playback engine), wrapped natively for iOS with Capacitor, and styled with an iOS-native semantic colour system that adapts automatically between light and dark mode. There's no account, no sign-in, no analytics or tracking, no ads, and no subscriptions: books, settings and reading position are all stored only on the device.
